We live in a society that’s sexist in ways it doesn’t understand. One of the consequences is that men are extremely sensitive to being criticized by women. I think it threatens them in a very primal way, and male privilege makes them feel free to lash out.
This is why women are socialized to carefully dance around these issues, disagreeing with men in an extremely gentle manner. Not because women are nicer creatures than men. But because our very survival can depend on it.
when ppl defend the hypersexualization of female characters by acting like they r sentient real ppl who make their own choices instead of being written and drawn by gross men

Miyazaki Hayao — Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa
I love Nausicaa. It’s my favorite manga of all time.
I learned some things about Miyazaki’s art while studying the hell out of Nausicaa in order to make my costume.
Lesson #1 - Miyazaki does not like to draw feet. Nausicaa’s boots are crazy. They have no soles. They change shape constantly. Their most common form is lumpy potato.
Lesson #2 - Nausicaa’s hair is the most fictional thing in this whole book. I took several reference photos to my hair stylist and she was baffled. She informed me that Nausicaa has at least 3 different haircuts, depending on which way the wind is blowing.
Lesson #3 - That symbol on Nausicaa’s chest? I went through about 10 drafts of it trying to normalize a single design from a group of about 5 that I selected out of the dozens of reference photos I took directly of the manga. I’m pretty sure that thing is alive, cause it changes shape all the time.
